Valin
Washington Examiner Byron York Feb 2, 2018 The House Intelligence Committee has released its controversial memo outlining alleged abuses of secret surveillance by the FBI and Justice Department in the Trump-Russia investigation. Here are some key points: The Steele dossier formed an essential part of the initial and all three renewal FISA applications against Carter Page. Andrew McCabe confirmed that no FISA warrant would have been sought from the FISA Court without the Steele dossier information. The political origins of the Steele dossier were known to senior DOJ and FBI officials, but excluded from the FISA applications. DOJ official Bruce Ohr met with Steele beginning in the summer of 2016 and relayed to DOJ information about Steele's bias. Steele told Ohr that he, Steele, was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected president and was passionate about him not becoming president. (Snip) Finally, the memo released today does not represent the sum total of what House investigators have learned in their review of the FBI and Justice Department Trump-Russia investigation. That means the fight over the memo could be replayed in the future when the Intelligence Committee decides to release more information.

clearvision
Mostly what those following the story had already heard. Interesting that they corroborated the memo with media reports on the memo leaked to the media by those involved....

Valin
Reporters definitely not sore losers after right-leaning media scoops them on Nunes memo Becket Adams Feb 2, 2018 The New York Times' Maggie Haberman took a shot at the Washington Examiner and Fox News Friday after the outlets were the first to break the story on the House Intelligence memo detailing alleged surveillance abuses. (screenshot) The Washington Examiner and Fox News were the first to report Friday on the contents of the memo prepared by Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and the reaction on journalists' Twitter feeds was the exact opposite of what we’ve come to expect in the Trump era. There was none of the usual journalist backslapping for the Examiner’s and Fox’s original reporting. There were none of the overly congratulatory tweets reading to the effect of, “What a scoop!” The Examiner’s Byron York and Fox’s Catherine Herridge were not singled out for glowing praise by their peers. Instead, certain reporters smelled a partisan conspiracy. “Well, I have to say, the House Republican Intel folks are actually making their partisan case look even worse right now, because they are releasing excerpts of the memo already to friendly media outlets, almost trying to build a narrative and control the headlines, the early headlines, and create this sort of, you know, help feed a feeding frenzy,” said MSNBC’s Chuck Todd. Draggingtree
Worse than Watergate By Chris Buskirk| February 2, 2018 The FISA Abuse Memo is out and now we know why the Democrats were desperate to keep its contents hidden from the public: it confirms the worst fears not just of President Trump’s supporters but of everyone concerned about the abuse of police power, government corruption, and the sanctity of our elections. The memo shows interference in the 2016 presidential election by hostile elements within a United States intelligence agency. It wasn’t the Russians we had to worry about—it was rogue actors at the highest levels of the FBI and Department of Justice. Left unanswered is to what extent the West Wing knew about or was complicit in this gross abuse of power.
