Apple unveiled a dozen new emoji characters in celebration of World Emoji Day on Monday, including a breastfeeding mother, a bearded man and a woman in a hijab.
The new symbols are set to debut on iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and Mac computers later this year.

“New emoji include Woman with Headscarf, Bearded Person and Breastfeeding, and food items such as Sandwich and Coconut,” the company said in a press release. “More animals and mythical creatures like T-Rex, Zebra, Zombie and Elf are a fun way to describe situations and new Star-Struck and Exploding Head smiley faces make any message more fun.”
New symbols are developed by the Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit group that sets the global standard for emoji and text characters. Software makers such as Apple and Google then integrate the characters into their products, CNN reported.:snip:
