Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), who is known for her anti-GOP, anti-President Donald Trump tirades, was mocked on Twitter Friday after a tweet about White House press secretary backfired.

On Friday, Waters tweeted: “Has anyone checked on Sean Spicer?”

The question is a fair one. After all, Spicer had a dominate presence in the Trump administration’s limelight in its opening months. However, that presence has since waned and deputy White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has delivered most of the daily White House press briefings in recent weeks, which have controversially been off camera.

About a month ago, reports began to surface suggesting that Spicer would soon be promoted to White House communications chief, a role that would have given him oversight of all West Wing communications. Those rumors have since waned as well.

Still, Spicer appears to continue his role as a senior aide to Trump. He was in France on Friday along with Trump and other senior White House members as Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Bastille Day.

But Waters got more than she bargained for in one response to her tweet, which amassed nearly 10,000 retweets, nearly 40,000 “likes” and more than 2,500 responses.

A parody account for Spicer with the name “Sean Spicier” delivered the knockout punch.

“Just reading about how you were named one of the most corrupt politicians in DC. Congrats!” the account wrote in reply to Watters.

Indeed, Watters has been named the most corrupt politician by The Citizens for Responsibly and Ethics in Washington four separate times — in 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011. She was even charged with three counts of violating House ethics rules in 2010 for helping a bank that her husband owned stock in secure a federal bailout.
