Exclusive — RNC Chairwoman McDaniel: Cancel August Recess for Congress Until Obamacare Repealed

by MATTHEW BOYLE10 Jul 2017Washington, D.C.

Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is joining calls for Congress to cancel August recess until Obamacare is repealed and replaced.

“Republicans are fighting for the American people because we have a healthcare system, Obamacare, which is failing,” McDaniel said in a statement the RNC provided exclusively to Breitbart News.

“I don’t know if you saw the news today that two million more people will be uninsured; this is the system Democrats put in place without any Republican input and now that it’s failing the Democrats have run away as quickly as they can. Republicans are trying to solve a very difficult problem. It’s not easy, there’s a lot of diversity of thought, we’re having a dialogue and discussion, I do think it’s critical we find a resolution and I agree with the President that Congress should not take an August recess until they figure out the repeal and replacement of Obamacare. Our voters are depending on them and that’s part of why we were elected to lead and we need to get that done.” :snip:

Cruz: Congress shouldn't recess until ObamaCare repealed, replaced

July 11 2017

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, joined the growing chorus of lawmakers calling on Congress to forego its August recess until it passes legislation to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

"It’s crazy that we would be taking a recess," Cruz told Fox News' "Hannity" Monday night. "There are a bunch of us, myself included, that have been urging leadership back from January [to] not take any recesses.

"Let’s work every day, let’s work weekends, let’s work until we get the job done," Cruz added. "We have a job to do and a short window of time, and so we ought to stop taking recesses, stop taking time off and just keep going until we get it done."

McConnell Delays August Recess By Two Weeks

David Rutz
July 11, 2017

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) announced Tuesday that he is delaying the traditional August recess by two weeks as his party faces a list of agenda items to accomplish.

"In order to provide more time to complete action on important legislative items and process nominees that have been stalled by a lack of cooperation from our friends across the aisle, the Senate will delay the start of the August recess until the third week of August," McConnell said in a statement.

The Republicans are trying to push through their agenda on issues such as repealing and replacing Obamacare, tax reform, and infrastructure. The Washington Examiner reported Tuesday on a letter sent by eight Republicans to McConnell urging him to delay the recess in order to not stymie the party's agenda.
