Valin
Ricochet: Andrew Stuttaford 4/26/13 Specific words conferring the right to a jury of one’s "peers” are not to be found in the Sixth Amendment, but in the Magna Carta. Nevertheless they have had a profound impact--common law and all that--on the way in which that amendment has been interpreted. Here's a proposed change that stretches that principle beyond breaking point: The California State Assembly voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to remove the requirement in state law that jurors be U.S. citizens. The bill, AB 1401, passed the state assembly with 45 votes in favor and 25 votes in opposition and now goes to the state senate. The legislation allows the jury pool to be extended to "lawfully present immigrants." If approved, this would dilute the idea of American citizenship yet more. And no, that’s not a good thing. While on the topic, this detail from the same report surprised me: (Snip)

Casino67
Will there be a requirement that they be able to speak English? Can you imagine twelve jurors with twelve interpreters sitting next to them??
Valin
WHY oh WHY did we let leftists get so far in the world? And really? Has it made the world a better place? Wow. The short answer is the Republicans ran a lot of bad candidates, who ran poor campaigns.
Valin
WHY oh WHY did we let leftists get so far in the world? And really? Has it made the world a better place? Wow. The short answer is the Republicans ran a lot of bad candidates, who ran poor campaigns. I would also add 2 things A. Democrats and the Left believe in government/politics. Republicans and Conservatives don't. B. Too many on our side either won't vote for/work for/support someone they think is not pure enough, (Right hand to God, the next time I hear someone on the Right say the word Republicrat, or call someone from the Center-Right a RINO...I'm gonna go postal!) OTOH to many people (mainly in leadership and the Center-Right) are ok with losing as long as their position inside the party is safe. To often they lose an election...and nothing happens. Look the guy who ran Romney's campaign (Stuart Stevens) is all over the media pontificating. Here we have a clown who lost to the worst President in modern times...and no consequences. He and the rest of that gang of mental morons should be treated like leapers' rant #612,874
