Washington Post Plum Line:

Hearst Newspapers is refusing to say whether it will stand by White House veteran reporter Helen Thomas in the wake of conservative outrage over her remarks about Jews leaving Palestine and going back to Europe.

Conservative Web sites have been banging away at Thomas ever since video surfaced of her urging Jews to "get the hell out of Palestine" and go back to Germany and Poland. Beyond these comments, Thomas has aggressively questioned the Obama administration's support for Israel in the wake of the flotilla raid, angering the right, and some Republicans are now seizing on her latest comments to call for her firing.

Asked if Hearst would keep her, Hearst Newspapers spokesman Paul Luthringer emailed me this:

We deeply regret Helen Thomas' remarks, which in no way reflect the views of Hearst Newspapers or its employees. Helen has expressed her own profound regret over the incident.

Asked again whether Hearst would keep her, Luthringer refused to go beyond this statement.

Thomas has already expressed deep regret for the comments, writing on her Web site that "they do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance."

Thomas is a longtime fixture at the White House who's known for directing pointed and ascerbic questions at Democratic and Republican administrations alike, and her firing would be a big story. But it's unclear whether she'll survive this assault, and with Hearst appearing to be holding off on a final decision to see where the story goes next, her fate hangs in the balance.

The most ethical news organization covering the most ethical presidential administration. What a crock.

So is seems the left is unconcerned. Won't make a decision until they see whether or not she gets support from the left to counteract the raging damn conservatives and some Republicans.

The left is too concerned right now with the "racism" exhibited by the State of Arizona for having the audacity to enforce Federal immigration laws to pay much attention to Thomas's inane remarks.

It takes too much effort to stay on message for them to allow themselves to be distracted by such shows of hypocrisy.
