Report: Former Police Officer Derek Chauvin, Convicted in George Floyd Murder, Stabbed by Fellow Prisoner

Ex-Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin, who was convicted for murdering George Floyd in May 2020, was reportedly stabbed Friday by a fellow prisoner in Arizona.

 

The attack happened at the Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, a medium-security prison that has been plagued by security lapses and staffing shortages. The person was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the attack and spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity.

The Bureau of Prisons confirmed that an incarcerated person was assaulted at FCI Tucson at around 12:30 p.m. local time Friday. In a statement, the agency said responding employees contained the incident and performed “life-saving measures” before the inmate, who it did not name, was taken to a hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Officials say no employees at the facility were hurt and the FBI was alerted to the incident.

Here is The Problem. High Profile prisoners (Like Derek Chauvin) have a big target on their back. You've got people doing serious hard time, who see people like Derek asa way to Get A Rep. The Problem is there are 2 options 1. Isolation (ie The Hole), 2. GP General Population.

What Types of Inmates are in Medium-Security Prisons?

Medium-security federal prisons house all manner of federal inmates. This includes inmates convicted of federal drug offenses, white-collar crimes, sexual offenses, and others. As such, there are no specific medium-security prison crimes.

Inmates designated to medium-security prisons may have a history of violence. History of escape, in-prison alcohol and substance abuse, and a lengthy disciplinary record will not preclude an inmate from being placed in a medium-security prison.

For example, around 75 percent of medium-security federal prisoners have a history of violence. Likewise, over 40 percent have received sanctions for violating the inmate discipline program.

Inmates designated to a medium-level prison generally must have less than 30 years left to serve but often have more than 20 years remaining on their sentence. Lifer-term inmates are occasionally assigned to this security level upon the regional director’s sentence length public safety factor waiver.

Politics involved for him to be in prison in the first place. Is there any such thing as 'a jury of your peers' in some parts of the US anymore?

My understanding is that they are not updating his family either. That's just not right. I guess he's not the right color or sexual category for compassion.

Chauvin’s Prison Attacker Was An FBI Informant And BLM Adherent

The inmate accused of stabbing Derek Chauvin 22 times at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona has been revealed to be a former FBI informant.

 

John Turscak, 52, who has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing Chauvin, became an FBI informant in 1997, according to the LA Times.

I must admit I'm surprised he's still alive after ratting out La Em.  They are not a bunch of Understanding let bygones be bygones people.
