Geee
Fox News A bill pushed by Democrats in the wake of the leaked Supreme Court decision would force Christian doctors to perform abortions even if they hold religious reason not to, religious freedom advocates warn. Several religious freedom experts warned about the effect the Protecting Women’s Health Act would have on Christian medical professionals who are against abortion should the bill pass the Senate and be signed into law. Charlotte Lozier Institute associate scholar Richard M. Doerflinger told Fox News Digital in a Tuesday statement that in "theory, federal law protects the conscience rights of doctors and nurses with moral objections to abortion." Geee
Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger and her controversial history back at center of abortion debate The recently leaked draft of a majority Supreme Court opinion suggesting that the 1973 landmark Roe v. Wade ruling is on the verge of being struck down has flung controversial abortion advocate and Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger back to the forefront of the abortion debate. Sanger, a birth control activist and nurse who founded what became Planned Parenthood in 1916, has been mentioned by many conservatives on social media following the leaked SCOTUS opinion last week. Sanger’s controversial writings and the uproar that resulted from them over the years caused Planned Parenthood to disavow her in a New York Times op-ed last year. Sanger was a staunch supporter of eugenics, which was a popular method of supporting selective breeding that often targeted people of color and the disabled. Senate Democrats fail in effort to codify Supreme Court Roe decision into law Kate Scanlon, Congressional Reporter May 11, 2022 04:25 PM Senate Democrats’ effort to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law failed Wednesday. An unprecedented leak of a draft opinion from the Supreme Court last week suggested that the court may soon strike down its own 1973 decision in Roe that legalized abortion nationwide. In response, Senate Democrats brought legislation to the floor they said would codify the standard set by the decision into federal law. But the effort was doomed from the start, as they did not have the votes to meet the 60-vote filibuster threshold to clear a procedural vote to advance the bill. Critics of the bill said the legislation would not have simply codified Roe but would go beyond what Roe currently permits by overriding nearly every state-level abortion restriction, including those that have been held up by courts with Roe intact. The House passed the Women's Health Protection Act last year, but it failed to advance in the Senate earlier this year. The effort was revived after the leak from the court. A group of House Democrats marched through the Capitol to the Senate earlier Wednesday, chanting, "My body, my decision." (Snip)

Geee
Va. Lt. Gov. Sears: ‘The Commonwealth Attorney Has the Power to Prosecute Individuals…Protesting Outside Homes of SCOTUS Justices’ CNSNews.com) – Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears said Wednesday that the Commonwealth of Virginia can prosecute people who protest outside the homes of Supreme Court justices. As CNSNews.com previously reported, Psaki said she believes people have the right to “peacefully protest” outside the homes of Supreme Court justices after a draft opinion of Justice Samuel Alito that would overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked. “Silence doesn't guarantee safety. The mob may come for you. The Commonwealth Attorney has the power to prosecute the individuals picketing and protesting outside the homes of SCOTUS Justices. The Commonwealth Attorney is supposed to enforce the law,” Sears tweeted. She also tweeted Virginia code 18.2-419 on “Picketing or disrupting tranquility of a home.” It says: “Any person who shall engage in picketing before or about the residence or dwelling place of any individual, or who shall assemble with another person or persons in a manner which disrupts or threatens to disrupt any individual’s right to tranquility in his home, shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor. Each day on which a violation of this section occurs shall constitute a separate offense.
Geee
It’s Illegal, but Pro-Abortion Protesters Still Target Justices’ Homes It’s against the law to intimidate a Supreme Court justice in an effort to persuade him or her to rule a certain way. But that hasn’t stopped some abortion activists from marching to the homes of the high court’s conservative justices to demand that Roe v. Wade stand. :snip:
